Annabelle still has a bottle right before bed each night. I usually sit on the lounge with her, give her the bottle and then when she's finished we say goodnight and go to bed.

At a visit to the clinic today, the ECHN said that we need to start brushing Annabelle's teeth after her evening bottle and before bed. For a while now Ive been giving Annabelle a toothbrush in the morning and during the day to 'use' (and she usually shoves it in her mouth and moves it around) but we hadn't actively started brushing her teeth.

So I got to wondering, how does everyone else manage the evening oral hygiene routine?

As soon as he started having that night time bottle I just brushed his teeth there in his chair in his room (he always had his last feed there) and gave him a sip of water afterwards.

He had a few teeth pretty early so I was a bit anal about it.

As soon as there were teeth, we brushed. Like you, the evening bottle wasn't in bed and so we established the routine from the get go that teeth being brushed was the last thing before bed. 4 years on, the routine is still the same, teeth, toilet & bed!

I can't bear the thought of my kids going to bed with milk and/or food on their teeth. I personally would hate going to bed after a big glass of milk and not brushing (ugh!), and have read far too much literature on how bad a bottle in bed is for their teeth.

We started brushing Taylor's teeth with children's toothpaste as soon as the very first tooth appeared.

At night she has her milk/medicine, a drink of water and the last thing we do before she goes to bed is brush her teeth. And we brush her teeth of a day also.

We don't let her have a drink of water after brushing her teeth either.

Basically I follow the guidelines given to me by the Oral Health Study that Taylor and I are a part of.

As soon as Aurelia's teeth came through we began brushing - we brush morning and night. She brushes thoroughly in the morning after breakfast and before bed. We do it after a bath but I would definetely be brushing after the bottle otherwise sugars are just sitting in the mouth overnight
