Monica, lovely to hear from you. Glad you're dad is on the improve.
Alana, I am so sorry Ry is sick before christmas. I really hope he is feeling better tomorrow.
Thanks for all the compliments about the dress. I can't wait to wear it and feel like a princess. I haven't been a BM since I was 15 for my cousin and I don't reckon that counts

So are we all ready for tomorrow? Last min food shopping for me. We had people over last night for Christmas dinner and all my food got complimented on. So glad because I was busting my arse in the kitchen yesterday and with a certain young man not sleeping much I am still surprised I managed to get it all done and it was 40°C down here!!!!
Once Christmas is over we have another group of friends coming for dinner on Sunday, NYE bbq here with about 10 couples (and kids) and then our deck gets pulled down and rebuilt starting 18/1. And then ACDC followed by QLD in Feb!!! I am so exhausted thinking about it.
And yes QLD girls I will be coming up on the 15th and leaving on the 19th. We are staying at Broadbeach (DiamondBeach Resort) and I will be free except for one day where we plan on catching the train/bus to Australia Zoo. Maybe I can give one of your girls my no. and you can organise amoungst yourselves and then someone can let me know? I am happy to do a day visit or if you girls prefer a night out, dinner is good too

Once we come back, full steam ahead for planning Nathan's party. Theme is chosen, just need to organise everything and make a final decision on his cake. Of course he wont remember and probably wont even care but I know I will have fun (and be a mess at the same time).

There is no way Lil can stand yet, I can't even imagine her doing yet!
Having a big baking day today with mum. Then having my hair done this arvo while hubby and Lil spend some quality time together. He is out playing golf with my dad at the moment.
Summa Chels isnt anywhere near standing yet either. Only when I hold her hands and she is very unsteady.
Im also having a big cook up today. Im doing all the salads tomorrow and I still have to finish some little christmas balls. Im really excited but I have sooooooo much to do its not funny! We are suppose to be going to a Chrissy Eve street party at Damos parents house tonight. Dont think we will be there long, we have heaps to get ready for tomorrow and have to set up a cubby house outside

Will be good once its all done and we can relax.
Im not sure if I will get back in here or not before Chrissy so if not I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Those how are out and about please be very careful and take care. I hope you all have a fantastic day

I only wanted two things for xmas and it seems I've got one, internet access, FINALLY!
Just went to mass with the family and some friends, it was nice to take Nina, she was very intrigued by all the people and liked most of the singing but the slow songs made her cry, odd.
Heading to Mum's for breakfast and presents, then the hospital for a couple of hours then back to Mum's for late lunch with my SIL and BIL and nephew. DH is sick so has decided even though we aren't going away anymore that he will still take the 5 days off like planned, he needs the rest, he has been so ill for about 4 days, poor bugger.
Saw Dad today, he was good, whinging and complaining so definitely getting back to his normal self. He'll be moved out of ICU to a ward on Tuesday then after a few days he should be home, perhaps even for NYE.
Thanks for all the well wishes.
Sorry I missed your Bday the other day Em, hope it was a good one. Thanks for the PM, I missed you guys too.
Amy - Annabel Karmel has some great recipes, all the one's I have made Nina has loved, so much more than any jarred food I have given her (it's been easier to and from the hospital to just pack a few jars).
SK - Love the dress, can't wait to see some pics with you in it!
Nep- great to hear from you.
For those hosting xmas, I hope it all goes well.
Nyree, Tanya and Toffee -you have done so well to get this far with breastfeeding, well done. Toffee, I hope you keep it up for as long as you like.
Alana - hope Ry is better tomorrow, poor love
I;ve probably forgotten heaps so sorry for those I have missed

I'm just uploading some photos now.
Nina gave me a christmas tree pandora charm - DH and I didn't do gifts, we are buying a fridge this week so that was our gift to eachother, ha ha ha.
Mum went totally OTT as per usual. I can't even remember everything we got, highlights would be a cancer council sun shelter and $250 towards a BBQ. DH got a global knife block which is amazing. Dad didn't get to the shops in time so he is also giving us $100 towards the fridge. My gifts are all at home and I'm still at Mum's, will post a list later.
Nina was totally spoiled by everyone, lots of bath toys, heaps of money for her account, some clothes, a few FP and lamaze toys. Once again, too much to list.
Spent a couple of hours with Dad at the hospital, we took some food and he was sitting in a chair when we got therem, he looked so much better than previous days. Looks like he'll be going to a ward early next week then hopefully home for NYE - so excited!
DH is now on hols til the 1st. We are going to hit the shops tomorrow and hopefully find a BBQ on sale (am also thinking about a webber Q). We have family over for lunch on Monday and not much else is planned which we are looking forward to, lots of nothing after all the running around we've been doing

I sat down to write a post several times over the last few days, and never got there. In fact, I think I've got one half typed on my laptop right now (I'm currently using DH's computer).
We had a fantastic Christmas. Everyone was so generous and respected my wishes to go easy on William- he got about five toys, just enough to make him feel spoilt, but not enoguht that I need to hide some of them away! His favourites are the clam shell ball pit, the Thomas the Tank lounge, and a Bob the Builder truck.
I was also spoilt! I got a box of very luxurious bath products from DH (including a face cream that costs $75!!!

), earrings, hair clips/ties, DVDs, chocolate...gosh, there is way too much to remember! Dh loved his sailing trip (thanks for helping me out with that one ladies!) and was very very touched.
Photos are again, halfway on their way to FB.
I'm just checking in quickly while DH ducks out to Maccas to get us cheeseburgers (we are going to stay up late, eat takeaway, and watch movies...just like the old days!) but it's been a really nice few days. My house looks like a bomb hit it (we entertained 25 guests for lunch today, and 10 people for breakfast yesterday)...there's even our coffee table in our bedroom and half our couch in my office....but such a great holiday. I wanted one to remember, not just because it's Williams first, but because it might be our last proper one as a family, if DH is accepted into the Navy.
William was very funny- hated wrapping paper, and had no interest in presents at all. I expected him to tear down the Christmas tree on Christmas morning when it was packed with presents, but he batted at one, then crawled away to play with an empty waterbottle on the floor. My son is a simple one!

Merry Christmas!

HI ladies.
I have noticed another evening out of Nina's weight gain and so far I have just put it down to her being more active and the fact that we dropped a bottle but just wanted to run her diet by you and see what you think.
Breakfast - either a piece of wholemeal toast with cream cheese or avocado or one weetbix with 60ml formula and stewed fruit (about a dessert spoon) - she rarely eats a whole weetbix
Lunch - was doing vegies and yoghurt with fruit but have recently dropped it to yoghurt and fruit - it's quite a sizable amount and she generally gets through most of it. Have tried a sandwich which she eats (sucks most of) and have also done a cruskit, sometimes one and a half.
Dinner - meat and veggies (equivalent of the largest jar) followed by either custard (a small jar) or yoghurt and fruit. This is her biggest meal and she often eats everything.
Snacks - morning and afternoon (not everyday, depends where we are and what we are doing), cruskit with cream cheese, carrot and cucumber sticks and now thinking of cubed cheese.
She has 220ml water and formula at 7am (or when she wakes, but not before 6.30am), 12noon and 6.30pm. She generally always finishes the first bottle and either one of the other two but rarely all 3 in a day
She is still not drinking water
I am open to some new food suggestions (I prefer spoon feeding her and she does too most of the time)
~Emma~
Dec 27 2009, 12:47 PM
Mon - she sounds very similar in what Sophie is doing. She eat slot of similar things. I have just started giving sophi eggs, and for breaky today she had scrambled eggs. S is still on 4 bottles a day, and she will sometimes have one overnight (avg 2/7 each week) I have thought about dropping a bottle, but she is still yet to sleep right thru for me yet, so until then it's 4 during the day for us!!! I'm not sure if your still doing tizzie's routines, but at 9 months she suggest still giving 4 bottles, but the 11am and 3pm to 1/2 feeds, which is what I'll do I'm sure, as she likes the arvo bottle.
As for snacks, we usually have a arrowroot and chhese chunks!
We just went out to fantastic furniture and bought a couple of the small blanket boxes as toy boxes for Sophie, we wanted the big one, but the lid was bowed, so we have 2 small ones! After she wakes, we'll fill them up!

Oh No! I am so sorry. An extra special Merry Christmas to Nathan James...I'm having one of those 'God Bless Kurt' moments (Sound of Music reference).
Thanks everyone for sharing photos. I loved seeing all of your little ones with their gifts (although it did make me realise how cheapskate we went with our little one this year!).
Monica, re: food. We are so behind, I really must catch up on what I'm 'meant' to be doing. At the moment, he has a weetbix for breakfast (like Nina, he rarely makes it through an entire weetbix!) with 60mLs of formula. Lunch is normally a sandwhich of some type- at the moment vegemite. Dinner is a raffertys packet, so chicken/beef/lamb/tuna with vegies. He snacks during the day on whatever we are eating, rice cakes, milk arrowroot biscuits, cut up fruit/cheese. He's still on 4 bottles a day, although starting to drop his 10am one.
I've got to get off the computer. DH & DS have gone out shopping to get some bits & peices, and I've got the whole house to myself- an opportunity to tidy up without a little one following me around undoing all my good work!

How do you prepare the west biz? Do you mush with boilig water 1st? Or just milk?
AK2
Dec 27 2009, 12:59 PM
I just crush it up with my hand, and then throw 60mLs of warm formula on top. By the time I get him in the highchair, bib on, it's mushed up enough for me to feed it to him.
Monica
Dec 27 2009, 03:27 PM
Yep, same for us with the weetbix.
I am still loosely following TH Emma, but I decided against doing the half half bottles and having 3 full one's. I think she is getting enough milk, it was more the food I was worried about, it seems it's all ok though
~Emma~
Dec 27 2009, 07:02 PM
might get her back on the weetbox then, hopefully she will like it much more now than before!!!
Has anyone tried any new recipes for bubs? I made a heap of casseroles and froze, but S still wants purees with chunks, not all chunks. The easiest way i have found so far is each few days cook a bit of mince up and mix it thru the veg puree, the only way she will eat it
toffee
Dec 28 2009, 07:30 AM
with the weetbix,DS eats 1 & 1/2 for brekky. I just make it with regular milk & mush it up with a spoon.
Mon, is Nina eating any protein? ie chicken, meat, lentils? I give DS protein at lunch time & he eats the equivalent of the largest jar of it, & some water or diluted juice. If she's not getting protien, i think you need to add at least 1 serve of protein each day & you might find her weight will pick up. (in addition to keeping her iron levels up)

Dec 28 2009, 08:06 AM
Monica, we are still really struggling with food down here. Nathan will eat apple/pear with farex, yoghurt, cheese and heniz jars (the museli ones) with no issues but we are still struggling with veggies. I am really starting to get frustrated with it. He is still only on 4 bottles too and doesn't drink them all.
I really don't know what to do about the veggies
toffee
Dec 28 2009, 08:09 AM
SK- have you tried mixing fruit & vege together? eg carrot with apple. Sounds weird but it might encourage him because there's a familiar taste he likes mixed in with it?
Monica
Dec 28 2009, 08:44 AM
Toffee - Nina always has either chicken or red lentils for dinner so I don't think there is any protein issue.
Em - Nina still really likes puree as well, though I find sometimes if it's hasn't pureed that well she is ok. I made a really simple dish of leek, chicken breast and carrot and pureed that. I can add it to any other vegies I have frozen and it works really well, it's a great staple and Nina sure loves chicken. Another one she likes is Chicken, cauliflower and corn. Also the red lentil recipe in AK puree book is really tasty. I just find I buy whatever veg are on special and mix a couple. I always have a least a week supply in the freezer of mixed veg, straight veg and a meat and lentil dish and I find I can always give her something different. Also, with the weetbix, add a little fruit, makes it a little less cardboardy!
SK - Do what Toffee suggested, carrot and apple is yum. Also, could you try him on some bread or cruskits? The only reason I say this is because at times if Nina won't eat a puree for lunch, I spread the vegies on the toast or cruskit and she will eat it, LOL. It's not a huge amount but it is some. Also, perhaps try some meat in there, or do half jar, half home made. I think it's all about experimenting.
Toffee - Has B's chucking improved? Nina's has virtually disappeared, I can't believe it. So happy, don't go through nearly as many bibs and I don't need to double bib anymore AND she can finally show off some of her outfits without a bib getting in the way, ha ha ha
I am thinking about trying her weetbix with normal milk and would like to start cheese. Of those doing cheese do you cube it? What do you buy? Just a standard full fat cheddar? Would also like to reintroduce pasta and am keen on trying rice, anyone done rice yet? A few books suggest baby rice but I can't find anything at all like that?
Desserts is where we struggle. I can give her yoghurt and fruit but if she has had a lot for lunch I don't want to double up. Am yet to make the egg custard and am loathe to give it doesn't freeze. She loves a few of the organic sweet jars, perhaps I should just keep a supply of those. Any suggestions on home made stuff though?
~Emma~
Dec 29 2009, 05:44 AM
Sophie has rice pretty much every lunch time mixed with her vegies. I just used normal long grain white rice as that is what we usually eat. I just cooked extra one night when we had iot, and in the little snap lock snack bags froze enough for 2 meals. She LOVEs rice, much more than she does Pasta...
With cheese, i usually just slice a resonable size peice and sort ofmake fingers with it, if that makes sense?? At xmas she ahd cubes as that is what was on the table. She also ate ALOT of jatz at xmas time too

Toffee - when you say you give protein at meals, what protein are you using? I would really like to give lentils, but as we dont eat them, i have no idea how to prepare them.
SK - early on we went thru a veg refusal, and i just mixed pear with everything cause she loved it, it passed quicklyand she now gobbles the veg aswell!

Goodmorning girls. Hope everyone is keeping well.
Damo is back at work today so its just me and the girls today. Im sort of looking forward to doing nothing

We have been so busy the past couple of days. Feel like I havent stopped since Christmas Eve really. I went to Ikea with my Mum on Sunday and spent the whole day Monday setting up furniture at both mine and my Mums place. Good to have it all done thats for sure. Today I think I might just head down to the shops to get some links taken out of my new watch. I cant wait to wear it
How many bottles are all the bubs on now?? We are still doing 4 but Im about to drop back to 3. I would like to have her on 2 bottles around one and drop back to 1 just after. I think I might cut back starting on the weekend. Its going to be harder this time around I think. Breanna hated the bottle and was happy to get rid of it. Chels on the other hand LOVES it now
Well I better get a wriggle on. I still need to finish getting dressed so we can head down town. Be back later
Monica
Dec 29 2009, 08:00 AM
Em - here is the red lentil recipe I use
50g finely chopped onion
100g carrots
15g celery (I didn't put this in)
15g butter
50g split red lentils
250g sweet potato
400ml chicken stock
Saute the onion, carrots and celery in the butter. Add lentils and sweet potato and pour over liquid. Bring to the boil and simmer covered for 20 minutes, blend. When I blend I add a little liquid at a time as I found 400ml was too much. The leftover liquid I had I strained and froze so I could use it for stock in the future as it was so yum.
If you want anymore recipes, I have written a few down from the AK book I borrowed
Bee - 3 bottles here and have been for a month or so. I felt guilty when I dropped it but she was consistently not finishing all but the first one of the day so I figured what's the point. She still is often fussy with the lunch and dinner one's. As long as she is getting a minimum of 600ml she should be fine (ours total 720ml once the formula is added).
DH is on hols til Friday and I had hoped to get a reprieve from the first feed and breakfast, no such luck. Old habits are hard to break, he still sits up til all hours therefore wants to sleep during the day. I'm sick of whinging about it, he won't change.
We got given a lot of cash for Nina at xmas so off to bank that today in to her account (which now has well over $1000 in it). Would also like to go BBQ shopping but I doubt that will happen

Emma, i put the red lentils in a bowl of water for 20 mins then drain. I cook it in the pan with carrot, onion & stock. Simmer for 20 mins. i usually add some grated cheese too & then puree it.
SK i made a beef casserole & pureed it - DS loved it! I was hesitant to start beef too but its been a big hit with him.

Good Morning Girls!
We had a fantstic christmas and I'm glad by the sounds of it everyone else did too.
Food Wise - we are just now moving away from puree to give 'food' a go. I have became alot more relaxed abot it now that he is reaching 8 months and is older. I let him have a little gluten now.
And shock horror i used a jar the other night, it was only a sauce one, the white sauce, but i didnt feel bad LOL. But in saying that i will make the next lot of white sauce. The babies one in the packet that i bought i thought would have alot less 'bad' indgredients than i cold find a homemade reciepe for. The homemade ones called for butter and full cream milk - i thoght these two were no no's - obviously not as the packet had both of those plus garlic, spices and something else i didnt think you would give them.
Anyway food/bottle wise we are
4 bottles a day - will finish maybe 1 or 2. If im out or forget the time he has 3.
Breakfast - prefers farex type breakfast with fruit. Can sometimes eat 1/2 a weetbix instead but doesnt seem to like weetbix as i have to force him to eat it.
Snack 11am - Yougurt.
( at preschool we has vege's for lunch because he screams if the other kids are eating
)
If he has lunch with me he has plain boiled rice. ( Basmati )
Dinner - atm his fav is pasta and carrot boiled in tiny amount of chicken stock, drained, than white sauce and grated cheese ( just tasty ). Other wise it is just Vege's.
I need to start giving him meat too.
We eat lentils alot i dont know why i havent given him any!!
Emma - with our lentils we soak them overnight first, drain and wash, boil, drain and wash than boil and cook the dish.
He has a milk arrowroot bicci here and there.
Monica
Dec 30 2009, 06:14 AM
Yeah, I was surprised with the ingredients for the white sauce but most of AK's recipes have butter in them anyways. Nina wasn't too keen on the sauce at first, I still mix only a tiny amount in with her vegies just to give it a little different taste.
I will be due for another cook up on the weekend so I think in addition to what I have been giving her I might also add lamb. I tried her on cheese yesterday and she wasn't keen, so I'll just keep trying. I also have to persevere with banana as she isn't a fan of that either.
For the first time yesterday, she ate a whole cruskit. Usually she just sucks it and leaves lots of bits but yesterday there was not a scrap left. She was being fussy with her vegies so I just spread some of them on the cruskit and she obviously loved it. Given our really slow start, I am enjoying solids immensely. Hang in there SK, once Nathan gets better, it will be all worth it, but I do know how frustrated you are.
Alana - I had to get over my jar phobia very quickly. I had a bought a lot to take anyway on holidays but was still unsure whether I would use most of them. When Dad was in hospital, it was just far easier to throw a couple in and not have to worry about packing the cooler bag. There are some she isn't keen on but others she loves (apple custard, apricot swirl, mango and banana, pasta bolognese). The organic range is full of goodness so I know she is getting what she needs

Dec 30 2009, 07:31 AM
Thanks girls. I tried 2 cubes of fruit, one of veggies and the face was priceless!! He ate more than usual but still struggled with it. I am going to try again at lunch time.
I totally forgot about milk arrowroot biscuits. Will pick up some today. Also doesn't help that I have to feed him on my lap as he refuses to sit in any sort of chair. NIGHTMARE!! (but I do enjoy the extra cuddles

)
What are people doing for NYE. We are going to friends for a BBQ because they have a pool and it's going to be HOT in Melbourne.
Monica
Dec 30 2009, 07:41 AM
I haven't tried sweet biscuits yet, she adores her fruit and desserts so I didn't want to add another sweet thing in the the mix, perhaps Nathan is going to be a finger food guy though SK? Have you tried cruskits?
Nothing on NYE, I am actually really disgusted in my friends. DH is working NY's day so has offered to stay home and sit with Nina whilst I go out but no one wants to do ANYTHING! One friend is single for the night like me as her DH is now a cop and is rostered on. Another couple have a baby so I suggested just a dinner locally and my friend and I can kick on at a few pubs but no one will have a bar of it, I am really really annoyed. My one other single friend is so annoyed as well that he is going to the Northern Beaches and I have been invited but it would mean staying the night and getting up at about 6am to make it home in time before DH goes to work.
I am thinking about suggesting either just DH and I go out for dinner at our fave Jap restaurant or get some seafood and cook it at home (or cold stuff). Might even suggest a bottle of vueve.
Our new fridge arrives this morning, SO excited. It has a water dispenser - question, can I give Nina filtered water or do we still stick with boiled? How long for?
**Bee**
Dec 30 2009, 08:21 AM
Mon - I just gave Breanna boiled water for ages because it was just as easy anyway. Im sure filtered water would be fine

I would give it to Chels but I guess everyone is different. It would hurt to try her on it anyway.
We have started making our own white sauce too, Chels loves it. I wasnt sure on the butter and milk but hey she seems fine with it. We use the jars every so often. When we are out or really busy we will grab a jar for her. she loves them
Alana - Chels hates weetbix too. I try give it to her and she wont have a bar of it.
NYE - we were going to do something with friends but doesnt look like its going tohappen now. We will prob have dinner with my parents and just head home and put the girls to bed and stay up eating junk food, drinking and watching the fireworks on tv
Well I better run. Have a friend heading around soon with her kiddies for a playdate.

I put some cow's milk in Nina's weetbix this morning (half half with formula) and I noticed when wiping her face she has two spots. Is this an allergy sign? When she has had reactions to yoghurt it has been full on blotches, not spots

Ry had some adult yougurt the other day and has some spots on his face - but with his sensitive skin im not putting it down to the food until he shows major signs.
NYE - No one has asked us to do anything

- quite abit different from non baby years.
Water - Ry has been having filtered water 90% of the time. I think only mum bothers boiling the water lol

Not sure Monica, it could be. I would leave her for a few days and try again and if it happens again you have your answer. Nathan loves cruskits with vegemite so we have given them a go. I am thinking you are right about finger food. I am going to steam up some carrots for him tonight and see how he goes.
Nathan just has tap water although I still boil his water for the bottles.

Slow in here today ladies.
I noticed Nina is getting a tooth, it's not one of the top front, but one on the left hand side, closest to the middle, incisor? Would explain the toxic poos but there has been no dribble whatsoever.
So cute. We went to Mum's tonight for dinner as Dad is now home from hospital and instead of getting a lift home we decided to walk the 15 minutes Strapped Nina in to the pram and rugged her up real good. We got home and carried her up the stairs and she is now in the cot talking and has been for 10 mins or so, just really quietly, like she is talking to the mobile or something. I fall more and more in love with her everyday

Deciding our menu for tonight, we have decided to stay in and cook. Looking like this.
Oysters and scallops on the shell with a lime and mango salsa
Salmon and avocado nori rolls
Teriyaki salmon
Diced steak (rare eye fillet with Japanese dipping sauce)
Also have a bottle of champers whilst we cook and getting a bottle of vodka for vodka, lime and sodas, can't wait - bugger you all my boring friends, we don't need you, LOL

Ha Monica! If I was closer I would definitely drink & party with you!!! That menu sounds really good, you will probably have a better time staying in getting pissed without the hassle of crowds!
We will be having a very boring night - maybe not even see in the new year! Mitch has cut his left incisor too but the front 2 are not far behind - thank god we are starting to actually get the teeth with all the bloody whinging! So glad ur dad is doing well - great that he is home.
Hot here today so not venturing out - always such a loooong day when we're home all day - definitely get cabin fever!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! MAY 2010 BRING LOTS OF HAPPINESS AND GOOD TIMES TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES!

Totally Tanya, I hate the crowds in the city on NYE, we are going to have a ball, we really need some quality fun time together so it's very timely.
