Well I'm guessing it will be a while until we start trickling into this thread, but in the meanwhile, thought it would be nice to swipe this idea from another mummy's thread and post a 'then' (just born) photo and a 'now' photo.

Awww Gayle, this year has gone so quickly. It seems like only yesterday I was texting Shiv going OMG OMG Gayle's had a baby!!
Can't wait to officially join you in here

It's just gone so quickly

Hi guys!
Yep, it's hard to believe that our bubs are already a year old!! An amazing year it has been though!
We had a party for Connor on Sat, however, we just invited family, as otherwise it would have blown out into a huge party (although it was still almost 20 people with just family). We might have a bigger party for his 2nd or 3rd b'day. He had a great time, loved all the attention and the b'day cake. I made a ladybug cake and matching mini ladybug cupcakes. I will post some pics soon (they are on my home computer and I am currently at work).
I will also post the 'then' and 'now' photos from home.
Gayle, Keely has grown into the most beautiful little girl!

Little Bellamy is incredible. A confident, goregous, dynamic little dynamo

I adore her!
As for Shiv, she's doing well

I haven't seen her in a few weeks, and she'd had a bit of bad news. So I'm going to check in soon.

Thats a shame, I hope shes OK.
Ive had a horrible last 24 hours. I put Emma to bed last night and she went off to sleep fine, she woke crying at 9.30 I went into her and she had this terrible cough like a barking sound and wasnt breathing properly. Im asthmatic and also suffered from croup and recognised it in her straight away. I went and started steaming up the bathroom and stayed in there with her for about 15 minutes which helped a little. Simon was out still on a work function and wasnt answering his phone I also had no car! I tried calling the hospital to see if I should take her in and no-one was available to answer the phone. Anyway I called my Mum who lives almost 2 hours away and she heard Emma over the phone and said I needed to take her to hospital straight away. Simon still wasnt answering his phone so in the end I had to call my cousin (poor thing she has a little baby herself) and she came and picked us up at 10.30 to drive us up to Royal North Shore. Thankfully they checked her oxygen levels and said that putting her in the steam straight away helped open her airways back up. They gave her some oral steroids and I have to keep an eye on her for the next 48 hours but it was so horrible. I cant believe Simon was out for so long but also had his phone where he couldnt hear it, Im not a happy camper with him today
Thankfully Emma seems much better this morning so Im hoping it was a one off and shes not going to have ongoing respiritory problems
Sorry for the long post, I just needed to get it all off my chest

(((((Leash)))) I know how you feel

I hope it was a one off for Emma........but if not, trust your gut instinct and 99% of the time you will be right.
Hopefully the steroids work a treat though. Was it just a once off dose, or is she on them for 3 days ?
*Leash*
Jun 25 2008, 08:30 AM
Thanks Amy. It turns out she did have croup so it was just one lot of steroids and thankfully shes much better now. Unfortunately though shes started getting her top two molars now so shes still feeling miserable.

Leash I am so sorry to hear about Emma (I have just checked this thread). What an awful time for you.
Simon sounds like Michael with the phone and it drives me batty. How has she recovered from the croup now???. Eva still only has 6 teeth and I am getting scared waiting for the molars after hearing what a horrible time Emma has had. Are they through now?
indigo
Jun 28 2008, 11:35 AM
Oh Leash

I am so sorry to hear what happened. It must've been so scary, but as you say - at least you could recognise what it was and could act on it, imagine if it was something wholy new. I hope that day never comes. How is she now? I hope there has been drastic improvement and she is back to her happy, beautiful self.

News this end is that we started giving Keely gluten to see if she has coeliac disease. As gluten is often found in most carbs and it's generally carbs that help bulk you up, the MHN weighed her and she's back down the the 25th percentile. Whilst I know that it's no huge cause for concern, gee it made me feel like a terrible mother!
She had 2 gluten meals and then started screaming through the night and waking up so we were very wary but it looks like she had a triple whammy instead - a cold (thank you MIL for insisting on holding her for hours and then telling us later that her household all has colds

), more teething and a little bit of constipation from S26 again.
That was half a week ago and we have slowly put her on gluten again and are crossing our fingers but as I touch lots of wood - it looks like she DOESN'T have it! woot!n
*Leash*
Jun 29 2008, 04:47 PM
Thanks girls. Unfortunately we've still been having a hard time. Thankfully she is now completely better from the croup and it doesnt look like she is asthmatic. The downside has been that she has now had all 4 molars come through at once. She has fully cut two and has another one that has almost finished but the bottom lefthand one is just taking forever, its now been over a month of constantly sleepless nights and having to drive her to get her off to sleep because shes in so much pain
Anyway hopefully it will all be done with in the next few days and Im praying for a break before the canines. I hope your bubs dont get it as bad as Emma has had it.
Gayle thats fantastic news that Keely might be in the clear, it must be a real worry for you. My brother is coeliac and we thought briefly Simon might be but thankfully Simon was checked and isnt coeliac, its so hard to manage isnt it.

Oh Bek

If it is easier for April to update, get her to do so and try and rest up as much as you can (I know hard enough with two bubs at home, let alone with Cooper in hospital.
You are a strong woman and it is only normal to feel as you are right now. Having Cooper in hospital would be hard enough without complications making it a thousand times worse.
Cry when you need to cry, scream when you are angry, just let it all out and don't hold anything inside.
I will be thinking of you all and saying a prayer for Cooper.

Leash, did you know that coeliac disease is genetic so there's actually a chance that little Emma could be a coeliac too!

I can't believe she got 4 molars at once. OUCH! Hoping the pain stops soon. It must be such a trauma for them having these rotten teeth, just a little toothache is unbearable.

Heheheh Ki. Yes, derr to her, queen of the peanuts.

I didnt realise

Thankfully so far she doesnt seem to have any problems eating it so fingers crossed it will stay that way. You wont believe it, just as her last molar cut through she is now getting a canine! I seriously cannot believe how they just keep coming one after the other. I suppose on the upside we're getting it all over and done with but I wish there was a break, especially for poor little Emma
Have any of you had any success getting your bubs to drink milk from a cup instead of a bottle? Ive been trying with Emma but she takes a sip and shakes her head as if shes telling me "hey this isnt right, my milk goes in a bottle"

Hi everyone!
Happy birthday to Emma for today!.
Hope her teeth are sorted for you Leash. We still only have six but the drooling, pooing blah blah is at its worst today so something else is occuring in there. With the sippy cup and milk thing we have had no luck yet. She looks at me strangely and is like what the hell do u think u are doing!!. The health nurse just said to try at each meal time and one day she will get it.
Eva is one tomorrow and we had her party yesterday. I am glad I went to the effort now and we had such a nice day (princess theme). Here are some photos anyway. She also took eight steps which was very exciting.

How are u feeling with number two? I am over the morning sickness and have a scan in two weeks so hanging for that to make sure everything ok still. It is so different this time around as I don't think about it the same, where as it was on my mind every minute when I got pregnant with Eva.
We have really bad nappy rash at the moment (looks soo sore and a bit blistery) so I am not sure what to do. I have immunisations this week so will check with the dr then. Also we have our first runny nose.
With the FF bubs (or do we call them toddlers now lol?) how many bottles/feeds are your little ones having?.
*****030812
Jul 6 2008, 07:37 PM
Nina, Eva is so gorgeous!
We have just gotten over the worst nappy rash here. Taylor would suck her fingers, close her eyes and scream/cry.
We were using water/cotton wool at each nappy change and using Sudocrem, but then thought it had gone fungal, only to be told by the after hours doctor (yes, it was that bad i called them out) to go back to the Sudocrem and that if it hadn't improved within a few more days to then go to my GP.
So we persisted with the Sudocrem and as much nappy free time as we could (didn't want Taylor peeing all over the lounge room carpet, so we put a plastic table cloth in her huge playpen and then put two thermal blankets on top of that) and changing nappies no later than every 2 hours.
Happy to say she has been nappy rash free for a few days now. We are still using the Sudocrem at night (no other time as we are back using our cloth nappies) just in case.
I hope Eva's clears up soon. Oh and Happy 1st Birthday Eva!
ETA: we are still on 4 bottles here. We were in the process of cutting back until all the sickness started. But they are 240ml, 120ml, 120ml and 180ml.
~Ki~
Jul 6 2008, 09:03 PM
Nina

I'm hanging in there

Just tired is all!
Ouch to the nappy rash, some chemists will mix you up a mixture of castor oil and zinc, which is brilliant stuff.
I don't have a great deal of time to think about being pregnant

connor keeps me on my toes. Just started feeling flutters this week though, so that's brought it all home.
Good luck with the scan
Amy, I'm glad Miss T's butt's feeling better. Just what you needed on top of everything else

Happy 1st Birthday Eva!
Oh no, Emma got really bad nappy rash just before her molars started coming through
In the end we had to get her some Hydrozole cream because the normal creams werent clearing it up. Thankfully that worked a treat within 24 hours.
Emma is still having 3 bottles per day although the amounts seem to change from day to day. Sometimes she has 200mls other times only about 100mls.
We've still been having trouble with her sleeping early on in the evenings. I put her down at 7pm and then she either wakes screaming at 7.30 or at a stretch 9pm. I ended up calling Karitane and they've said she may be getting scared when she wakes after her first sleep cycle and its dark. We have put a night light in her room tonight and even though she woke about 20 minutes ago she seems to have talked herself back off to sleep now, so fingers crossed that will do the trick.
P.S - Talking of second bubs, Im sooooooo clucky again! We are thinking of trying for no.2 toward the end of the year

Thanks girls for all the well wishes and advice re the bottles. Eva has three and I was just worried as a friend of mine got told to give them all up at age 1. There is no way I could do this as Eva hardly eats anything still.
The nappy rash is still there and I have been using Hydrozole as it seems like a fungal infection. So hard to keep it dry or have nappy free time in this weather. All the zinc creams don't do a thing and make it seem worse. I have her 12month injections this week (keep putting them off) so I will get the dr to check then.
We had a bad night last night as she woke up nearly every hour screaming. Her fingers were in her mouth and it has to be teeth but I can't see any. Plus I am like you Kiera, so exhausted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with this pregnancy (I am getting scared about handling two now after a night like that).
Leash, very exciting news about TTC no. 2. I think that sounds like a really good age gap.
I love seeing the transformation in the babies too, so thanks for posting those photos. It is amazing what a year brings with babies isn't it!. I just love Emmas hoodie too. She looks like such a little girl (silly statement but you know what I mean!!).
Kiera do you have names for no.2 ?? I am at a lost this time lol. Do you have a feeling what you are going to have?. I am sure I will have another girl for some reason but then again last time I was having an 'Eddie' and Eva popped out!.
Amy how is Taylor this week? You really have had a tough time of it. I did have to laugh about the plastic in the play pen. Everytime we take Evas nappy off she has to wee, especially when we are running a bath.

Nina I hope the Hydrozole works, that seemed to fix up Emmas nappy rash. It does sound like nasty teeth. I found with her molars (if that is what Eva is getting through) that it helped to alternate between Panadol and Nurofen, I also gave her the Brauers Teething Relief and that also seemed to help her. They are nasty though

Taylor is doing great thanks Nina. The healthiest we have seen her in a long time.
Do you have air con at home that you could put on heat ? I just made sure we had that on to keep the house warm when Taylor was having nappy free time. And I kept her long sleeve onsie (with the bottom part tucked up) on her with a jumper and also put babylegs on her.
Is she in alot of pain from it ? If so, the after hours doctor told me that I could give Taylor panadol. I did once, but then forgot later that day.
I hope it clears up soon and that she is good to go for her 12 month immunisations. We are hoping the Paed gives the green light for Taylor's when we see him in a few weeks.

Kiera I love the name Oliver too. It was going to be Oliver but a family friend just had a boy and called it Oliver (I was devastated lol). I got told to swap to milk instead of formula though. She commented that it would be cheaper but I really don't see how and it's a PITA - it means I have to buy fresh milk every few days, it's terrible to travel with whereas I can whip up formula anytime, anywhere and the formula has more iron in it which while Keely is still getting used to food, seems to be something that I'd prefer knowing that she is getting in her diet.

Happy Birthday Bellamy!!
Gayle thats funny you mentioned her nose we call her 'Emma Rose with the Button Nose'. We are still switching between Pura Kids Milk and 1 - 3 Years Formula. Everytime I give Emma cows milk she gets little red dots on her face so Im going really slow with introducing it. I think she is getting enough iron in her food, she has alot of spinach, lentils and we also give her red meat. So I hope thats enough??
Nina - Emma had her needles on Monday it was horrible, I also cried

After the 1st one she was looking at me like "why are you letting this lady hurt me". Thankfully I took her little bunny toy thingy that she loves so that helped bring the smile back.
I love the name Oliver for a boy too but Simon wasnt keen. I also really liked Harry but with our surname it obviously didnt go! I think if we have a boy next time around we will call him Zac, thats the only name we seem to be able to agree on.
Keira and Nina - are you finding out what you're having this time around?

Bek, that is great news about Cooper. Have a wonderful time away with hubby.
Nina, yeah there is talk of No.2. Probably s tart trying in a few months or more. Hmmm as to whether Zara would bother me, I guess it would depend if there were ever any 'issues' with his first love and how much you love the name.
Gayle, we are still on Step 2 with Taylor. I would have liked to of weaned her to cow's milk by now, but with all the illness it wasn't going to happen. We have just about finished a LF tin too that we bought when she had diarrhoea. I think I am going to wait until her paed appointment in a few weeks time to see what he says about going onto cow's milk.
My big thing atm is, the Toddler formula in the S26 is vanilla flavoured. Who the hell drinks vanilla flavoured milk ?!?!?! And I have read their website that says oooh if your child doesn't like drinking it like that, make it into a smoothy. To me, that is just asking for trouble.........creating a fussy bub. And if Taylor was to get use to vanilla flavoured milk, then she probably would never drink the real stuff.
So if we don't wean onto cow's milk, we will most likely stay on Step 2. But we will see.
*Leash*

Happy Birthday for yesterday Harley!
Bek that is fantastic about Cooper. I also hope you have a nice time away with Gary, you guys deserve a bit of a break.
Amy I agree with you, that seems insane to be giving them vanilla flavoured milk. Talk about getting them used to sweet things early on. I dont know if this would suit Taylor but the Karicare 1 - 3 Year Gold Formula isnt flavoured at all. Hope the pediatrician appointment goes well
*****030812
Jul 11 2008, 08:29 AM
Thanks for that
Leash. May have to consider it if the Paed thinks we shouldn't move onto cow's milk yet.
Here it is, from their website;
High in calcium and iron
17 other essential vitamins and minerals
No preservatives or artificial colourings
A larger family sized 900-g can
Available in stickpacks, ideal for daycare or outings
Yummy milkshake taste
Shocking!
Gayle, was thinking about you saying you have to buy more milk every couple of days. Is that because you only buy a small quantity, or does the milk you use not stay fresh for long ? Only reason I ask, is mine and hubbies experiences with milk, we have found that Dairy Farmers stays fresher longer. So much so, I can be seen using it on my cereal the day AFTER expiry. This is huge for me, I use to not touch milk the day before expiry

I think I was like this though as we use to drink Physical and it always went off quickly.
And with preparing while out. Does an ice brick not keep the milk cool enough in the short time you are out ? I guess though, it's not like water and if you have any doubts, then there is no way you would give it to Keely, just in case.

I'm not really sure what to do either, but my health nurse said to stay on formula (as Eva hardly eats anything and there is more nutrients in it) and just to put a bit of cows milk now and then into her cereal. Maybe you can do both?, take formula out and introduce milk in her cereal or in a bottle when you are at home.
Does Keely eat much?. We are having a painful time (well it is for me cooking and wasting so much food) as Eva just doesnt want to eat and if she does its a very smmmmmmalllll amount. She does like fruit but still 1/4 of a bananna or 1-2 strawberries only would be a meal for her. Although if I am eating something, of course she wants it. So now I have to sneak a chocolate biscuit without her seeing as she just points and goes 'yum yum yum' and wants some lol.

That is so cute!
In my toddler book it says that some toddlers are born snackers, can you get Eva to eat a series of snacks each day rather than a couple of larger meals?
Btw I have to commend your decision to move from Sydney to QLD its absolutely freezing down here and I cant imagine how you're coping in Vic Gayle

ETA - I just posted this video on You Tube for my in-laws, thought I would share it. Emma caught me recording her playing with her blocks the other day
