A question about getting baby baptised...
We're looking at TTC next month and I'm one of those super organised people that like to have it all sorted before we've even started I'm Catholic and my husband is Anglican, neither of us attend church but when we have children I them to be baptised, it's something that I feel really strongly about. Will the church allow you to baptise a baby if you don't attend church? I also read somewhere that godparents have to be active in the Catholic faith... So for the girls that have had their baby baptised do you regularly attend church and are the godparents religious??? I know it's something I won't have to think about for a while yet but it's been something that has been nagging at me for a little while. TIA Bella -------------------- |

Hi!
My husband and I are both baptised catholics. I was fully sacramented and I *think* hubby was too. (His mum joined the Revial Fellowship when he was young) But we had a civil marriage because to us God does not play a roll in our marriage. The idea of getting married in a church felt phoney to both of us. So According to the Catholic Church we were never married We do not attend church regularly. Funerals only. But both of our children are baptised Catholic. Luke's cousion is priest and he performed both ceremony's Both our son and daugter share 2 Godparents one of whom is a fully sacramented but non active catholic. the other is fully sacramented Greek Orthadox. My daughter has a 2nd Godmother who is also a fully sacramented and non practising Catholic. None of this was an issue for our Priest. Similar situation for us as it was with Bec. Steve and I are both Catholics, were married in a civil ceremony. We are not regular church goers. The only stipulation with us was that god-parents, at least one had to be a catholic, the others it didn't bother them. We went to mass once before Jay was baptised and we pretty much haven't been back since.
Our priest was very obliging (if a little scatterbrained -------------------- |

Thank you both! The priest who married us is a family friend (he also baptised my little sister 25 odd years ago) and he would baptise our children if he was available. It'll be one of the things we discuss after we get UTD... Last time we chatted about it, DH wanted to know if they could just be baptised christian instead of catholic! When it's time I'll chat to family friend and get his input. Your posts have taken a load off my mind though - Thanks!
