So after being with Ella for the last 21 months and occasionally doing call centre work at home I was itching to get back into the work force. Due to the privacy laws I can't say too much but I have started working one day a week with a non profit org thats funded by the government to help just released male prisoners find employment. Anyway the last 3 weeks have mainly been admin work but next week I will actually go to a prison with my team leader and another consultant to talk to prisoners about the program that we run. The program is not compulsory but is in their best interest to help them on release. So I'll update you girls next week with how my first day in jail went. This was only meant to be a temp job but they are keen for to stay on and have asked me to work two days a week until they employ a perm person. They hope if the budget allows, that i can stay on for 1-2 days a week permanently.

I'm so excited about my first trip to prison. Is that weird?

The prison is low to medium protection, including a high proportion (50%) of sex offenders and (50%) protection/special needs prisoners. The program is offered to 3 vic country prisons atm. But I will also be attending VIC's maxium security prison in a couple of weeks.

Wow, sounds interesting. Shane has been out to a few of the prisons here in Qld (dealing with IT stuff, not as an inmate biggrin.gif ) and his suggestion is to only take the bare necessities as all your possessions are logged in and out individually. Considering he has to take a tool case with about 50 different sized screwdrivers along with all his other bits and pieces, this is the most time consuming part of his call-out.

Thanks Amanda. This should be interesting.

I didn't know about wearing green either. I think I will dress plain & simple.
