Hi, I'm struggling to know when I should start my planning. See my wedding isn't until 2007! I'm going a little crazy as i want to start planning but it's so far away. i'm studying at the moment and I'll graduate 2 weeks before the wedding so I do need to be organised so i don't stress out just as exams are happening! My family are coming over from scotland so I want to send out save the date cards has anyone sent these out before?
If anyone has any advice that would be great. i have ideas and want to do it all now but I also change my mind quite alot so what should i do? Thanks everyone Fleur -------------------- |

Hi Fleur,
I don't think it is ever too early to start thinking about the wedding that you and your H2B would like to have. Some girls would suggest booking big ticket items this far out - reception venue, photographer, ceremony location etc. I would suggest not getting too caught up making definite decisions about dresses or flowers yet. By all means look to your heart's content, but your style will evolve over time and this will naturally in turn impact the dress that you eventually decide to have. In terms of save the date cards, I think it is too early. A lot can change in a two year period and you might find that you will have to shift your date around to fit in with the suppliers that you have to engage. I think 12 months notice for a save the date is more than adequate for guests. Having such a long engagement period is also great becuase it enables you and your H2B to really talk about the kind of marriage that you want to have and to discuss your expectations of marriage and of each other once you are married. Sometimes this component of planning gets lost amongst flowers, shoes, dresses and hair-dos, so having so much time will really allow you to plan a strong foundation for your lives together. When in 2007 are you getting married? Enjoy your planning! Vik -------------------- Support the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life

Hi
We are having a lot of overseas guests and for this reason, we sent out save the date cards as well and the more notice you can give the better. There is no reason why you can't start looking for a venue for the ceremony and the reception, a lot of places could already be booked out. As soon as you have these two, you can find a date which suits and then you can send out save the date cards. But before you send out save the dte cards, you will have to do a guest list so you know who to send to. These people will definitely have to be on your final guest list if you send them a save the date. That will keep you busy for a while and also make you feel like you have a wedding to plan for. -------------------- ![]() OUR WEDDING PHOTOS - JUST CLICK ON THE PHOTO AND VIEW AS A SLIDESHOW |

Totally agree here. Depending on where (and when in 2007) you are planning, reception venues will most likely be taking bookings already. I'd get that booked in so you have a definite date and venue to work around. You can book the photographer as well although you'd also be fine to wait til closer to the time (about a year out seems ok, although unless you have a particular one in mind you can leave it longer still). Then I'd just start researching ideas - themes, colours, dresses, flowers etc - just in mags etc - to get an idea about what you like. keep a scrap book/folder or whatever. But I wouldn't buy or order anything until within the year. congrats on your engagement and good luck! -------------------- 4th February 2006 - Happily Married

I would be booking the reception venue, ceremony, photographer, videographer and band/DJ now as theose things book out early and this way you get what you want.
The rest i would leave till about a year before as styles and tastes change. have fun planning, i know I am!!! -------------------- |

I'm also another confussed 2007 bride.
At the moment my partner & I have just started looking at ceremonies & reception venues or though we wont actually be booking anything till December (will probably book a photographer aswell). As for everything else, it can wait till mid 2006. |

You could start thinking about different themes that you could have. I wish that I'd thought about that a little earlier as I keep seeing things and thinking that it would've been interesting to do that! It actually might help you decide on the type of ceremony and reception that you want.

Hi Fleur, Totaly agree with you here Vik it is never to early to start planning. Look till your hearts content but dont make to many firm decisions on certain things as things ie: BM's,GM's,colours dresses etc as things do change as time goes by. Also watch how much you spend on wedding books/mags over the next 12mths as these are quite expensive.(very expierenced in this department)Have a look in the trading post thread on this site for any girls selling them cheap. Above all enjoy your planning the time will go very quickly. kathyxx -------------------- |

I've had 5 months to plan and I think I would go crazy if I had to space it out over 2 years!!!!!
I agree that you should start looking at reception venue and ceremony location. With so much time it also means that you can get yourself a pretty good idea of budget and what you need to save for. Set goals. In the mean time enjoy telling everyone the good news!! -------------------- |
