I'm not planning on having a 'Big' Hen's night ie I won't get plastered. The only time I think I can put it is on the Thursday just before our wedding. If we have it any earlier none of Simon's good female friends (and mine too) from Sydney will be able to make it.
Is it too close to the wedding?? I don't know how these things work! -------------------- |

Usually hen's nights are at least a week before the wedding, and often up to a month or more earlier...
I think it is a bit close, but then there is no point having a hen's night earlier if no one is there to come to it!!! If I was you I would just change the type of night - ie tone it down, less drinking, more of a pampering session or girlie night, quieter with less people. Maybe massages and mani/pedis etc... -------------------- 4th February 2006 - Happily Married

Even if not getting plastered I find I don't look or feel my best for a day or so after a late night. I would have a hens night well in advance & just a small gathering maybe for dinner when your friend gets here

Dont worry Im in the same situation with everyone not coming up until a few days before the wedding. I am considering a quietish hens night a few days before, I should be able to spring back in time for the wedding

I was in the same situation, coming over to Oz from N.Z and friends and family absolutely everywhere! So the day before my wedding, my bridesmaid organised my 'hen's day', we had a scavenger hunt through Mooloolaba, I had to do silly things, just the usual like ask guys for kisses etc but I wasn't even drunk
Meanwhile the 'bucks' were at the pub having a great day gambling on the dogs!! After we all met up at my mum's house for a BBQ, we invited all guests who were on the coast that day! It was fun, and no adverse effects on my wedding day...it actually gave me a stress free day without doing anything 'weddingy' or hardly even thinking about it! -------------------- |

My FH is having his bucks night on the Thursday too! (2 sleeps before
He made that decision because most of his friends are interstate and they are coming especially for the Bucks Night. He has promised that he won't be too late and that he won't write himself off so close to the wedding.. I guess if you are comfortable with that then go for it. I'm having a Bridal shower/B#dy Sh#p party that night... Hope this helps Lindy -------------------- |

If that's the only time you can have it then it's better to have it close to the wedding then miss out all together. You'll just have to be careful to behave yourself a bit and not drink to much.
I'm having my official hen's day - consisting of afternoon tea and cocktails the weekend before the wedding and then another smaller get together, probably just dinner with my bridesmaids the night before. I'm not a big drinker so I'm really not worried about it being to close. You know yourself and your mates and only you can say what's best. -------------------- |

I wouldn't be having it that early as I would be too nerous but it also depends what you are going to do. If you had a nice pmper day with massages and facials, it could be quite relaxing.

I think it all depends on what you want to do - If you want a quiter hens night with close friends, good food etc - nothing rowdy than two days before is fine, but if you want the big hens night with lots of drinking etc than 2 days is probably a bit close.

Thanks for all your suggestions - I'm not a big drinker, jujst can't be bothered any more, so hang-overs or random accidents aren't really on the cards! I'll see when people will be around.
At this point I'm not sure how many friends will be able to come -------------------- |

I had my hens on the Thurs before my Sunday wedding, so all the interstate and overseas guests (ie my family/inlaws etc) could come. So no I do not think its to close

As long as you can recover i say go for it, it will mean that the wedding celebrations will start earlier and i think it is a great lead up to the wedding day.
we are having a party at our house on the Thursday before our wedding just so that we can forget about organising and just start to enjoy our wedding, that way it is more like a three day party!!!! -------------------- |
