After going crazy for weeks trying to find a garden location with shelter for our ceremony we finally found a location - St Kilda Botanical Gardens (thanks to a suggestion from our lovely photographer wink.gif). We went and had a look at lunch time today and we both just love the gardens and the gazebo. I called the council and it's booked the whole weekend sad.gif

I'm so upset and now I'm wondering if we should move it to a week before or after our planned date just go get the garden. The only other option we're considering is Williamstown Botanical Gardens but there is no shelter (although our photographer seems to think the big trees will offer enough shelter).

I just don't know what to do. I'm also worried that if it's a garden wedding and it does rain that some guests might skip the ceremony in case they get their little tootsies wet rolleyes.gif

It really does depend on what else you've booked, and how much you love the venue...and also of course if your date has special significance.

we changed our wedding date so that we could have the ceremony venue that we want - we actually moved the wedding back a month. It has actually worked out better this way, because now we are sharing our wedding date with my grandparents and they're absolutely stoked! For us it worked out better to change our date, but go with your gut on this one.

You don't want to regret such an important part of your wedding!

Also, from experience as a guest at an outdoor wedding in Melb - I had nightmares about it hailing and pouring with rain on the day, with no shelter.. but then I'm a cynical Perthie smile.gif

What about the Fitzroy gardens? They have a gazeebo there as well!

Or does it have to be in St Kilda?

asrai I'm a cyncial New South Welshwoman!

H2B doesn't want to change the date - we've chosen the 17th for a few reasons, one is quite silly - it's St Patricks Day and my BMs are wearing green! Also it's my dad's wedding anniversary and they've been married for over 25 years so I think that's a good omen. It was quite nice when we set the date because we didn't know where to start with setting it and wanted it quite close to when we got engaged so on 17 March I said "this would be a good date" and we set it!

Fitzroy Gardens is booked out for the Commonwealth Games.

Sam, have you decided on your reception venue? Do you want somewhere in the city or thereabouts, or is a bit of travel ok?

I KNOW I saw some beautiful places around Melb and further out, with shelter.. I guess you also need to take into account what is happening with the games - you don't want to end up at the other end of the reserve from the competing archers or something.. !

asrai our reception is in Yarraville so going too far east isn't really an option. Williamstown would be good as in distance but I just just know about the weather *sigh*

Bloody Commonwealth Games!

would werribee park (the mansion, victoria state rose garden) be too far away? I'm not sure if you can hire them for wedding ceremonies either, but just a thought..

I have absolutely no concept of distance btw tongue.gif

I'll look into it but I think it might be too far, we have a lot of guests coming from interstate as well so I don't want to worry about travelling for them...........not that I should!

Part of me thinks we should just book Williamstown Botanical Gardens and what will be will be, at the end of the day I just want to get married. But then the realistic Bridzilla part of me kicks in and I think that I'll worry about the weather sad.gif

Sam, don't worry, it is TOTALLY natural to be a control freak... at least, I hope so, or I'm in real trouble!

or hire a canape thingy (like a tent) to go in any garden. guests can have umberellas if it rains and you and bridal party can get the shelter.
