Hi girls.
DH has finally advised me that he would like a Webber Baby Q BBQ for Xmas. I see there are few versions of them and they all market for around the $300.00 - $350.00 mark DH wants it for camping and for when we got on picnics - it will be small enought to throw in the camper trailer and car. My question - do you find them useful? Do they go through gas quickly? Do they hold much food? Do they get enough heat under them to cook a steak quickly and effectively? Do they fold up compactly and store easily? Are they value for money? Thanks in advance girls. I want to go and get something this weekend as DH is away with work so I have tiem to buy and stash it lol. Thanks KAAM -------------------- |

Not sure I can answer all the questions as my DH is the bbq'er in the family. But my parents gave us one about 3 years ago and my DH is absolutely in love with it!
We've not gone through much gas. I think at one stage DH was bbqing every weekend and we are only upto our 2nd 9kg bottle of gas. We have also cooked roasts on it. Steaks cook quickly, usually with the weber you have to let it heat up for about 10 mins before you put anything on it but then it is exactly the same as any other bbq - I think We have also had bbqs for 8 or so people and have managed to cook most things on it at the same time. Sometimes we've had to do it in 2 lots but it hasn't really been a problem for us not sure about the folding up, I don't believe the bits split up so I think it may just be one unit - not too sure about this as we've only used it at home. Hope that helps -------------------- |

We have the "Q" which is the middle size and love it! I got it for E for Christmas a few years back and I also got the stand to go with it. They cook just like any other BBQ and you can also roast on it. i also recommend getting the grill plate so you can cook eggs, onions, basically anything that is small enough to fall through the grills. They are so easy to clean as well. Get the weber wire cleaning tool

We got a baby Q as a wedding present almost 5 years ago and we love it!
It is our only bbq and we do have bbqs quite often (at least once a week) DH and I were arguing over how long we have had our 4kg gas bottle on it. We can agree it has not been refilled for at least year. Cooks like any other bbq - steaks are great and heats up quickly too I definitely recommend it. My FIL has the big one and he thinks it is fabuolus as well. They do awesome roasts in theirs! Must dig out the instructions so we can do roasts as well! Yes a grill plate would be handy but we haven't missed not having one in the last 5 years! -------------------- |

Another one to recommend it! We got the baby q (i think it is the smallest) and stand last year for christmas. Like you guys we take it camping and it small enough to clean in the kitchen sink!
Heats up faster than our old bbq and the gas seems to last forever! We haven't got the grill plate, and we havent missed it either! But then again, we havent wanted to cook onion or egg! Have cooked steaks, sausages and roasts - all delicious! For us it is compact enough and we have cooked for up to 6. The plate is a bit on the small side and we have had to cook steaks and sausages separately, but that didn't bother us and when we bought it we knew the main use would just be for us, rather than entertaining. Go for it, I say! -------------------- Birthday Tickers from WiddlyTinks.com Love is everything it's cracked up to be... It really is worth fightiing for, Being brave for, risking everything for. |

I know you're already convinvced KAAAM but I'm giong to add my two cents in - I love love love our baby q. I think there are three sizes as we have the smallest one, for the same reason as your husband wants it - we take it when we go away for a long weekend.
We use it all the time to cook all sorts of stuff (even pizzas) and it's so easy to use. Gas usage isn't too bad, but of course it depends on how often you use it. I did a lot of research before we bought it though, as it was a bit of money for a small bbq. But totally worth it. Also the heat is such that it mimicks the char grilled taste of charcoal bbqa, which not many gas bbqs can do. The only thing is, its a bit difficult to cook for say, 6 people in one go. We use it about once a week, especially during summer. -------------------- |

I'm so glad to read all these positive reports.
We are thinking about getting one for our small deck upstairs. So this info has been fantastic! Thanks. -------------------- ![]() |
