I am a little confused about how to time our reception music as really want a Jazz band to play but cab only afford them for a couple of hours. The thing about this is that i guess they will have to pack up after the speeches and it might be a bit strange. So far i have this timeline

6pm-Jazz band starts in hall guests have canapes & drinks
7pm- we return from photos
8pm- cut cake, speeches
8:30- band packs up?
8:30-switch to ipod party mix
10:30- we leave

Any ideas on a different timeline? or cheaper Jazz bands? or do you think that should be fine?

I think that your timeline sounds like a good idea - the ipod will get people up and dancing once the formalities are over and the jazz band will provide lovely pre dinner/dinner atmosphere. Will the band stay and play for your first dance?

I think that's fine too smile.gif
As long as you have the transition quick so there's not a big gap in between where people fall out of party mode IYKWIM but if you have the ipod start while the band are packing I'm sure that would work well
