I think I have out grown the kit lenses that came with my camera, so I was hoping that someone could help me out with upgrading.

I also have a 50mm/1.8, which I love, but mainly just use for portraits of my kids.

What I am after is something that I can take away on holidays, or when we go out for the day, and something that has a nice focal length range, so I don't have to change lenses.

I have been looking at the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, does anyone have this lens, can you recommend it? Ideally I would love an L series lens, but at the moment, they are just out of my budget, and I couldn't really justify spending the $$$, being only a beginner.

Any other recommendations, something with a larger aperture would be nice, but again can't seem to find anything in my budget.

I have no idea about the lens you mentioned, or its price range, but I highly recommend the Tamron 18-250mm. I find it perfect as an all purpose lens.

I have the same one as Tas - Sigma 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 and I find it excellent as an all purpose lens.

I bought the same lens just recently - although I bought it in NYC, and even with the sh'tty exchange rate, it cost me a fraction of the price that it was selling for @ Ted's! Great lens!
