My daughter has just turned 10 & I've always been open with her about any question she asks, but these days it doesn't seem to be as simple to answer her as it use to be. Her friends are starting to talk about periods & though she knows the the simple answer... " It's when a woman bleeds once a month to get her body ready for having babies when when she's older" she wants to know more details, I think mainly so she doesn't look silly if they know more & she doesn't (you girls know how it is at school)

I found telling her the simple answers quite easy, but need some help with explaining things in more detail in a 10 year olds terms (if that makes sense)

Anyway... I've heard about a book that every mum should have when they have girls, but can't remember the name of it. I've heard so many people say they have it so im assuming it is really popular.

Anyone have any ideas on the name or where else to look

The people who did "Where Did I Come From?" also did a book about puberty called "What's Happening To Me?" http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Happening-Me-g...d_bxgy_b_text_b
but I don't know whether it will give those deeper answers you were after.

What about "everywoman: a gynological guide to life" by Derek Llewellyn-Jones
What it looks like

It's not exactly written in 10 year old language but is great for mums to get information about everything that can hapen to a woman from birth to death.

The section on periods has great pictures that you can use with your own words.

My mum used it for me, then i got my own copy when i was about 15 and now i am using it for my daughter too.

Think of it as an investment for the future questions too laugh.gif

This is what i bought for my 10 yo daughter and i have to say its an excellent book. I read it first, gave it to her and she read it cover to cover.

There's also a "puberty boy" one that i bought also.

She often talks about what she's read and aske questions, i can thoroughly recommend it.

I bought a book called Secret Girls' Business for my daughter she was 10 when I bought it.

It is really simple in little kid terms but is imformative enough
