Hey I am just ooking for ideas for fun things to do with riley.

I think he watches too much tv and want to stimulate his mind.

We do drawing but all he does is give me the texta and tell me wat to draw.

We have playdough, which he likes but can be messy and i find i dont get it out that much because of the mess and clean up. Which I know is silly but it happens.

Weve set up his jumping castle down in the garage and play on it when ebony is asleep.

Any cool ideas?

TIA

what about things like building blocks, lego (good for spatial development), painting, water play- although it is getting cold, sand play....

how about cooking, well baking. well making a mess really... but make up some cookies or something and let Riley play with the spoon and mixture and stuff.

we have two dogs and A loves to chase the ball for them. it sounds a bit stupid but R is a smoker and has to go outside to smoke, so A follows him out every time he smokes, so while its bad for his health she's off running around for 5 or ten minutes every hour or so with the dogs).

otherwise painting, i just put down an old sheet, and let her go hell for leather with the paints (and butchers paper)

also, swimming, but we're in Cairns and it hasn't started to get "cold" yet so we take her down to the local swimming holes and play there for a few hours on weekends.

(A just turned two in Feb just to assist with age/ability comparisons)

Oh gosh, 2 year olds are so much fun... but the best things in life involve mess, so I'll try and avoid the obvious about paints & playdough.

Read read read - they're little sponges at 2, so reading is the best smile.gif

Bubbles - a little dishwashing detergent goes a long way. Then you can experiment with different shaped bubble blowers etc.

Making musical instruments - pots & pants are great drums, long cardboard rolls (ie. the old alfoil/paper towel rolls) can be flutes or didgeridoos, bottles with rice inside are maracas... Time can be taken decorating them & playing in your orchestra

hide and seek - except, instead of one of you hiding (can be a bit too dangerous & unpredictable) hide a favourite toy and then search for it

+ this website is good: http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/toddler-theme.htm

Definately bubbles - my son loves bubbles.

Sticking - i have got a box of crafty things(feathers, Shapes, straws etc etc) and James loves to do sticking. At the same time we talk about the colours and shapes.

Stickers - i also have a few boxes of those different coloured dot stickers and different sizes - he likes to peel them off a stick them on a page.

Stamping - you can do t with ink or paint - i tend to use an ink pad and stamps from the shops.

Cubby houses - we love making cubbies.

Dress ups

He loves outside and everything that goes with it - sand, water spray bottle(cheap from $2 shop and great value)

Cooking - we cook at least once a week.

The park - a walk down the shop to buy morning tea

Blocks

Computer - James loves getting on the elmo's world website and there are some good alphabet games where the kids just have to press the keyboard.

Books books books - he loves reading.

We also go to playgroup once a week and try and catch up with nanny/grandma one day a week.

cleaning, Taleisha loves to help clean or put away the dishes and that sort of thing (well everything except the vacuum cleaner). So if I need to spray and wipe the windows or glassware I just give her a piece of cloth and she'll wipe away to her hearts content.

She's a huge fan of books and could happily have us read her stories for hours on end, she also loves the local library and runs a royal muck in the children's section.

Puzzles and lego/blocks are another hit in this house.

We did baking the other day and she thought that was pretty cool and the cookies didn't taste too bad either. We're going to give quiches a go later in the week, that should be fun.

Drawing and painting, another winner. We have a large box of outside chalk were she is free to scribble on the pavers and bricks to her hearts content and she has a little easel as of today, which hopefully means we should be able to get the paints out a bit more.

Water play is another easy thing and doesn't require a huge pool of water, a simple tupperware container can provide lots of fun.
