Hey everyone,
My FH and I don't like the taste of wedding cakes, so we decided to go with our favourite cake, it is called Mortal Sin and you can get it from Gloria Jeans (But we know where they make it, so we can get it from there)... Anyway, we'd have it as the top tier (here's a link to a pic: http://www.cakevan.com.au/mortal-sin-cake.htm) And then underneath, or around the cake, we'd have normal size cupcakes (chocolate mud, and marbled mud- from the 'traditional flavours' section) (http://www.babycakes.com.au/main1.html). The cupcakes is what the guests would be getting Anyway, I don't have any pics that would be similar, but we'd decorate the mortal sin with chocolate buttons, or somthing similar, and put "choc chip" bridal topper on top (thinking of making one out of clar). My FMIL doesn't agree, and everytime she see's a nice cake she starts carrying on about it.... I don't really care, because she is not getting her way, but I just thought i'd run it by some pro's! Ta! -------------------- |

I think it sounds great. I don't think you need the traditional iced cakes these days as weddings are much more about the couples personality. Your cake should "suit" you just like the rest of your wedding day.

I think it sounds great!! We don't like fruit cake either, so we had a 2 tier cake with Chocolate Mud on the bottom and Jaffa Mud on the top - it was devine and everyone loved it!!
As you said, it doesn't matter what your FMIL wants or likes - its not her wedding! Its yours. If your H2B likes it, then just order it and don't tell her. I've seen so many cupcake tiers for Weddings these days, and even the profiterole cakes (croquenbouche?) - they make such a statement and people do comment on them, and seem to enjoy them, much more than "traditional" wedding cakes (not that there's anything wrong with traditional - but its your taste that matters). At the end of the day, your Wedding is supposed to be a celebration of you and your H2B - so the Wedding theme and food, including cake, should be a reflection of YOU!! |

I love the idea too. I think its great you both want it to reflect the things you like and not just be would it 'should' be like

Sounds devine!!! Who cares what your MIL thinks. Its getting eaten, not looked at for all eternity!!! To me the cake is more about the tatse than the look. Although it will look fantastic I think!

YUM xxoo I agree totally, Most people these days (our ages) dont even like bloody fruit cake! The amount money you pay for cakes is massive so you want it to be eaten. My cousin bought 4 dozen Krispy Creme donuts and made a tower as well, everyone loved it. I think the cake has to make a statment about the bride and groom not FMIL or even mothers for that matter (my mum hates the one ive chosen) and quite frankly I couldnt care less! -------------------- |

Thanks Candles, Miss Gucci and Beachwedding!
It really does have to be the yummiest cake in the world, and I think it will look pretty good. That Krispy Kreme tower sounded awesome... I have a weekspot for donuts! Thanks again ladies -------------------- |

Just go with whatever YOU want and don't worry about your mother. Remember it is YOUR day not hers.
We had a chocolate mud cake because we like mud cake and not fruit cake. One of my friends had one tier of lamington and another of normal sponge. cheers Pete -------------------- |
