I'm wondering if a brainstorm here is really the best idea.

If you are concerned about someone taking domain names for a possible future business, it might be a brainstorm best done in private.

If you believe that someone has registered a domain name that has nothing to do with their business name and that you are entitled to it, as Puggie has said, you can lodge a dispute.

I can't help but wondering whether this is really the best route to express your grievances with what has occurred. While I acknowledge that what has happened to you is most unfortunate, I can't help but wonder what message it sends out about how you like to conduct your business.

Best wishes with your new business ventures.

I was just thinking the same as Vik.

If this person has stolen your name once before should you really be putting new names out there for her or others to take???

As my business will be traded on the net, I am not required to register a business name, but after speaking with my accountant she has recommend that I do, anyway. I will be registering which ever name I choose tomorrow.

Vik, Please believe me that I gave great thought about doing this thread. I am aware that it may come off as being "bitchy" to some. I had no intention of it being that way. I am just worried that somethings may have been said and simply defending myself, and asking for help.

I know that the .net.au and .net names are free, but I thought that it would be better to go with a .com.au or .com name as they are the most popular extensions. What do you all think?

My final choice will be known only to me.

I don't know the full story behind all of this, but it does sound a bit nasty.

Unfprtunately, one of the probs with forums like these is that anyone can post anything they wan't and others can choose to believe it or not. You can never be too sure when there are 2 sides which side is "right" unless you are involved in the situation IRL.

I certainly don;t want to offend anyone with this comment. It is just something I think about when I read posts with someone talking about someone else.

Jenni,

I totally understand what you are saying.

To be honest I am being very careful about what I say. I have made every attempt to not make this personal, or emotive. Everything that I have said is true and correct.

However, I respect your decision to err on the side of caution.

She allegedly may have made defamitory comments about you or your business name but haven't you just done that by publishing who took your intended business name.

Business is business - no matter how harsh. No use crying over what's done.

I'd suggest taking your business practices and brainstorming sessions to an office - not a forum.

Owie, sometimes the comments here make me cringe! wacko.gif

Anyways, I am going to keep it short & sweet... it's not nice.

I know you have tried to handle this in as mature way as possible, and understand your need to at the very least defend your own business.

One word...............Karma.

You know - I was thinking about this overnight (yeah I know - I really need to get a life rolleyes.gif) and I was pondering the purpose of this thread. The "To those of you thinking of dealing with a certain flower lady..." title suggests it is to warn brides off this person on the basis of their overall ethics/business practices. While their ethics might (?) concern some potential customers, unless they're about to start a similar business, the trade practices of the person in question are unlikely to concern them.

Or was the purpose of this thread to brainstorm new domain name ideas or generally get information on cyber-squatting? If this was the case, then perhaps a general thread not mentioning full names, ABNs and email addresses might have been a better idea?

If this person has indeed emailed suppliers about you and your business, they may well have a case to answer to legally. That said - I wonder whether, by naming and 'shaming' (?) that person here, you would also be considered to have given cause for a case to answer to?

Just my (extended) 2 cents smile.gif
