Medical people : Two lovely midwives and a doctor.

Support people: Hubby, Mum, and my two sisters who arrived ten mins before my son was born.

I can't say how special it was to have all of my loved ones around to meet Matty at the same time as us, my sister is always telling me how connected she feels with him having known him from the second he was born.

It also meant that my hubby could watch him being born and I had my mum and sisters holding my hands and looking after me smile.gif

The amount of love in the room was awesome wub.gif

I.do has swallowed my last 4 attempts at posting this!

Given that I was a public patient in a different hospital to his, it is awesome. I am so blessed that I ended up having to have my check-up with him (the obs on my case left my hospital due to a 'difference of opinion', strangely, 1 week after I gave birth - I am not suggesting he did anything wrong,in fact he was always very vocal about how the antenatal clinic let me down)

Hubby = although he probably would have been happy to not be there too! He said it didn't look like it was much fun wink.gif He was very good & supportive though.

The midwife walked in every 20mins or so to check how i was doing but pretty much left it to us until it was time to deliver.

My obs walked in for the actual birth (i was adamant i wasn't pushing this child out until the obs walked into the suite. No idea why? Probably because i was paying him a fortune so he was going to earn his money!!!)

And another midwife turned up too right before i began pushing.

Anyone know why 2 midwives? I actually don't know what the 2nd one did?

DD: my partner, 2 midwives - a student midwife (who i allowed to do an internal - heck they have to learn right?) - OB right at the very end to assist if needed for the delivery - which they did need him for as DD was not breathing properly sad.gif - my parents were somewhere close by - not sure where! laugh.gif

One of my midwives (LISA) who stayed the entire time even though her shift finished almost at the end wub.gif she came to see me the next day (on her day off wub.gif ) to get a hold as she did not get to have a hold the night before! This was in a public hospital.

DS: i had my partner, a couple of midwives and my OB, he was there at the start (meant to be induced but luckily went into labour naturally that morning!) to see how I was and to do the inducing, estimated the time of birth (to the MINUTE! and he was RIGHT! he made bets with the staff laugh.gif ) I told them ALL to pay up, he was spot on. And said he would be back later on. He popped in again about lunch time and then just before DS was born to deliver him! I don't remember ANY of the midwives being helpful or assisting to me or my partner. I do remember them telling me that no i could not have any more heat packs as the 2 i had were ALL they had huh.gif WTF - i am paying how much to be here and only 2 heat packs, are you kidding me!!!

IF my DH and i eve decide to have a baby, I will have him of course, and any of our 3 combined children who want to be there for the birth or labour. But no one else.

Toffee I think this is just the way they roll? There seems to always be two. I only had one (a shit one at that) until MY midwife arrived (the one I had all my antenatal care with and, by God, was I glad to see her!) and then there were two.

One seemed heavily concerned with paperwork and getting the baby side of things ready whilst the other supported me.

Maybe they also have two as a back up? So there is always peer supervision going on?

Clearly I am no expert tongue.gif I just know there always seems to be two.

I was always told "one for the Mum, one for the baby"...so if you both need attention at once. And I *think* it also makes things easier for them in terms of getting everything ready, helping you, noting the time of birth etc...

With L- One midwife, another at the end, and DH. And an ob came in periodically as well as at the end for some stitching.

With M- One midwife, another at the end, DH, and a student doctor who asked if she could be present. Also a brief visit from a ridiculous ob who couldn't tell if she was head down or not and insisted on giving me an ultrasound rolleyes.gif While I was attached to the CTG, and a Synto drip, and the midwife had already confirmed she was head down.

My MIL wanted to be present, and my mother would've come had I wanted her to, but I felt most comfortable with just DH as a support person.

I had DH & 2 midwives. The ob came in twice and then operated on me in a room full of people when I had to have an emergency c-section. There were probably about 10 people in the operating theatre in the end.

I had my husband, a student midwife who stayed with me the majority of the time and was fabulous, a senior midwife who attended intermitently and was there for the birth, and my wonderful obs who came and went a lot, and was there for the whole pushing stage and afterwards.

A midwife from the SCN nursery was also there to answer questions when I was taken to the delivery suite, as Hen was premmie, and she came to collect him after he was born.

Me, my husband, and the backup midwife. The OB registrar came in and out a few times, assisted the midwife for the actual birth, and helped me birth the placenta. She also was the one to do the three stitches to my grazes.

About an hour after Oliver was born my regular midwife turned up. She'd been with another patient the night before and they aren't allowed to do back-to-back births without a break so she sent in her backup. She came in and helped me BF, shower etc.

I didn't want anyone else. I didn't want it to become a spectator sport. I also didn't want a lot of noise - I made them turn the music off when I got there. I plan on having a minimal amount of people for this one too.

M – I don’t really remember other then hubby being there (I had a few shift changes). Ended up with a c-sec anyway, so had all the theatre staff

I – hubby, a midwife and then theatre staff as ended in another c-sec

O – hubby, my midwife and too many people to count in the room once I got to hospital. I would say at least 8ppl. It started off beautifully just being me, hubby, bestie and midwife.

This one, I would like just me, hubby, bestie, my midwife (in an ideal world).
